The motorcycle swerved easily through the crowd of vehicles, filtering through the traffic to an open spot; smart black cuffed gloves with gold inhibitors rev the engine with a purr, as Shadow pushes forward, casually flicking the switch dials. He wore a dark leather jacket, with extra padding on the back and sleeves, that still zipped slimly to his slender yet dense body.
He pulls into a space in front of a rover, lowering the engine and clicking a few dials on his dash handle.
Another cycle pulls up beside his sleek black, fire flamed bike, the other a gloss blue with light blue faded streaks along the cover.

Sonic clicked up his helmet mask, beaming a bright smile; he wore a navy leather jacket with a peach scarf around his neck; the blue hedgehog clicked his dash handles too, settling the machine to a soft purr.
"I think it handles well~" he asked, poking a white gloved finger to the mph unit, "Bet I could out race ya though~"
Shadow offers a dry scoff and shake of his head, swaying the upturned dark-red striped quills only slightly. Trust Sonic to find a competitive race in anything he does- Running, cycling- Ebony was certain, if they each had a plane, Sonic would dare to race loop-de-loops in the air.
He leaned close, a calm scowl on tan muzzle, "I teaching you to ride a bike- no racing. You're only done six weeks into the lesson."
Blue gestures his hands, pouting cutely, "Aw~ Come on, six weeks in nothing! I learnt to fly a plane shorter than that!"
"Sure." Ebony rolled his eyes to the sky.

The traffic began moving again, and they began reeving their vehicles forward from a slow hum to a short rumble, as the exhaust piped up.
Dark looked over his shoulder towards his former other, checking still; he and Sonic were partners- love spouses- and had been for some time. He had never imagined being with the blue hedgehog in a committed relationship as good as this one- several months back, after finally hearing the blue blur gave up that false romance with the pink girl, Shadow couldn't wait to make his move. The moment Sonic was single, he asked- or more likely monotone suggested they date- and it took Blue by surprise.

Obviously Sonic never expected Shadow to fancy him, since their past differences of rivalry- followed by occasional fights and swings- but it seemed, just after the Ark disaster, the dark hedgehog learnt to look past his judgement and hatred, and began to see the positive side to the azure male, as well as the flaws; admittedly, the mixture became very attractive to him.

Shadow watched the other male rev a metre ahead, occasionally looking back to shine those exquisite emeralds or beam that perfect smile.
Ever since they began there relationship, Shadow was content to see the good and bad sides of Sonic, such as the blue hedgehogs warm attitude towards others, being so selfless and full of life, or even his outrageous attitude for onion sprinkled chilli dogs, which still made the dark hedgehogs lip curl with distaste- but it made him happy. He began to treasure that smile and confidence, despite giving a few jabs and jeers to tease the blue male- but it was all good fun.

He purred faster, reaching the national limit to pull alongside the other hedgehog, gesturing Sonic to turn off at the next junction; Sonic hand signals back as they reach the slowing point, meeting the light change from amber to red.
"Turn left here, we'll meet Station Square." Shadow explained; Sonic pinched his thumb and forefinger in an 'OK' sign. Blue tapped his dash again, lamely checking the speed monitor before glancing ahead at the passing vehicles. He turns his head to the other, "It's smooth~" he points to his bike, obviously referring to the gear change and motion, "We should definitely take them to a track and speed race for the day~ Suppose it makes a change from running~"

Dark sways his head, exhaling softly, "It's always racing with you... Fine, how about we return the calibre, check the fuel ignition and we'll drive to the formula point down by- er- Sand hill, was it?"
"Yeah!" Sonic beams, "And we run out of fuel, we ditch the bikes and race on foot!~"
Shadow lightly sweat drops, looking somewhat deadpan; he shouldn't be surprised by now.
"Still nice~" Blue says, "Riding.. haven't down something like this since that extreme gear event near Babylon? Remember?"
Ebony nods.

He remembered the tournament only a year or so back, when the Babylon rogues challenged Sonic and his friends to a wind speed race, only to find the actual event was a trap hosted by the infernal doctor. He never concerned himself with where the bird brains were these days; rubies roam over the sleek form, so infatuated by the runner legs, well toned and slim, to the flexible slender waist meeting peach navel and fuzzy chest. One hand reaches out and brushes the perk thigh, capturing the blue boy's attention and earning a playful wiggle and chuckle.
"Hey!~"
"Hey yourself~" Shadow sneers, seeing the lights change to green and reeving his motor up again, swiftly turning to the intended direction; it doesn't take long for Azure to catch up and shoot a playful glare, poking his tongue subtly. Dark almost rumbled a chortle.

It was strange how previously he once detested that cocky smirk and jest in his direction; now the playful expression was just too tempting to bare. He twisted the crotch, earning Sonic a shot of his fire cylinder and gained a responsive croak of the blue bikes throttle in return.
They swerved down the road, past Birch street- filtering once more between traffic- and once more, Shadow never stopped watching the hedgehog lightly roaming in front of him. But not just to admire the other's complexion or form.

Despite his twisted humour or jests towards the blue hedgehog- their endless play fights or rough love in the bedroom, there was one thing Shadow never ever wanted to do- and that was hurt the one he adored. Sure, Sonic annoyed him, got under his fur or turned the cogs in his head beyond frustration, even on good days-- but whenever they challenged and trained, kicking out and swapping fists, Shadow was always certain not to go too far and break a bone; he always asked, mainly in-between whispered nothings- that his attention was not unwanted or fierce before taking the other in the heat of passion. It wasn't to say he was treating Sonic like a damsel- far from it. Azure could take a hit, a slap, a kick, a dive or a lovers bite easy and rarely complained- he had grown into combat over the years and was no stranger to bloody knuckles, scratches, scars and burns. Sonic never cried, even if he broke a bone or anything serious- sure, it hurt, but Shadow always admired the other's resilience to get up and start again, no matter the down fall.
And Sonic never stopped beaming a smug smirk with spry confidence.

But the moments when Sonic was taking far too many hits from an enemy and was struggling to stand; or when heavy beams of ten tonnes were falling over him, along with debris; or when Sonic was at risk of unconsciousness and inflicted with heavy injuries; or if an alien charge had him surrounded, and despite his speed there was no way out; or even if a majority decided to roast against the blue hero one day, jeering and sneering his name, causing the azure male's world to crumble and fall.. Shadow had promised he would never stop protecting him. He would break the sonic barrier and unleash chaos, exterminating the ill gotten spawn that threatened to submit his love to torture- it would only take a chaos blast or two between him and the world.

And even in those moments, if Sonic begged him to stop or resist- even though Shadow's urge to eliminate the foes or threat was so great-- he always promised to hold back, to not hurt or mane or kill, because Sonic never wanted that, and doing so would make the other deeply and regrettably unhappy. And seeing Sonic scared for his life or other's lives, or never smiling, was the last thing the Ultimate life form wanted.

His thoughts were slightly interrupted, from his focused drive state he usually came in, when a horn honked ahead, causing his partner to glance back at the silver Toyota and gesture his confusion; from Shadow's opinion, Sonic hadn't done anything to cause a wrong- despite being a speed hog, the blue blur was still careful on the roads. The driver honked again, and black ears twitch, just making out the yell from the window over the hum of car exhausts. Sonic threw up his shield mask, pulling a puzzled face and gestures again, "What's wrong?"
The guy seems to become agitated, yelling himself hoarse; Shadow dryly exhales-- it was always likely they'll be a road nut somewhere making trouble.

Blue tries the gentle approach, telling the guy to chill, performing a few thumbs up and smirks- he nods pretending to understand the human's disorientated rants, "Good! Good to know! Okay!" Dark barely misses the single middle finger poking up at his boyfriend or the short violent cuss.
Sonic claps his palms, mock applauding the guy, "Very nice! You kiss your mother with that mouth~"
"F**K you!" comes back the response, croaking spittle from his fat lip.
"Sorry- my boyfriend already is~ Get in line~"
"F**k your gay f**! You drive stupid!"
"I did, thanks~ and you drive well!~" Blue mocks a thumbs up, grinning widely; his cocky exterior never failing him.
That was also the amazing thing about Sonic. Through the hurt, the struggles, the effort and the trauma he suffered with every battle or event of causality in his life, he never stopped finding the funny side of things- forever smirking, jesting or simply beaming with pride.
It was something Shadow felt a strong affliction for.

The guy continues to be hostile, trying every method in his idiot guide to break Sonic's defence; the cussing, the sign language, and the insults; Blue just nods, pretending to care about his criticism and give another thumbs up. "Okay, good to know! Drive on, pal!" He waves the driver ahead, not interested in getting into a conflict-- it wasn't that he was afraid. Far from it, Sonic was a born fighter still enthusing the pacifist behaviour. But he knew, just as Shadow did, that humans weren't as strong or fast or agile as a super sonic hedgehog, and engaging a fist-ti-cuff with them, was basically one sided.

"I do you! You s**T!"
Blue quirks a brow, obviously amused, "You do me?~ Thanks for the compliment, but I'm presently engaged~"

Shadow decides to cut this short and revs slowly toward them, gliding smoothly between the rider and the car; he shoots a glare at the homosapiant, quietly staring down the man. At first, the human tries to taunt him, telling him to move, to grow a pair or simply random insults. Ebony casually gazes down at his cuff, pulls them, adjusting the inhibitor and flexing his fingers, clearing his throat.
"Hey- I'm talking-- hey!"
Shadow continues to ignore, instead turning his gaze to his blue lover with a casual scowl- but not a hateful one, as many assume.
"Do you want to stop at Station Square or keep riding to Bridge road. Either's fine with me."
"Yeah, sounds cool~" Sonic grins, also ignoring the driver; who arrogantly huffs and fidgets- disliking the lack of response or argument.
He honks his horn, and skids ahead, pulling away with the other road users, just as both hedgehogs pull away smoothly, reeving their engines with a purr.
"What a dick, am I right?" Azure chuckles, twisting his clutch to gain more speed. Shadow mutters in acknowledgement, but over the din of hot cylinders and exhausts it was hard to make out.

Once again, they filter through the traffic, reaching the highway road and roam up to 80mph or more, joy riding a little in the heavy breeze.
It wasn't nearly fast enough for Sonic's taste, but the gentle exhilaration was enough to spike his senses and grin enthusiastically; Dark tails behind him, only to happy to observe the speedster's smooth performance or perk behind, pointed cute tail swigging softly behind.
Rubies glance across, feeling the momentum of ecstasy as Blue does, driving fast along the lane and nearing a quarter of his peek speed.
He had noticed during their occasional races, how alive and vibrant the blue hedgehog appeared dashing quickly over hillsides and rugged terrain; here wasn't much different, except the wheels replaced his red high techs and they had to keep to a national limit below 90.

There was a moment when the road opened and the vehicles seemed distant from each other, that Sonic let rip and hit past 100, roaring the purring engine to a brass steel drum, echoed like the jet cylinder of the tornado before take off. Emeralds peek round, giving a challenging sneer-- and Shadow's heart soars with rekindled energy, reeving his thunder drum to match, and gaining extra friction.
He leers closer, tagging them bike shoulder beside bike shoulder; Azure laughs shortly, keeping his gloves on handles and filtering back slightly to come round the life form's other angle; Shadow smirks deviously, his crimson hues glinting with competitive ego.
He matches the other rider once more, teasing his mph and feigning out the other.
Cobalt catches on to his act, and gracefully feints a swivel at him, before curling outward and streaking ahead.
It was similar to their runs across the plains, when Shadow glided his skates close enough to touch noses and Sonic kissed his muzzle before racing ahead to the finish line. Even on motors, the playful jest was still there.

And steadily, he noticed the other slow, closing the gap down from ninety to seventy, pacing back behind the other cars and then to randomly filter once more; they glided beside each other, sharing those simple non vocal gestures- I'll catch you next time~

Their lane slips into a bend off the motorway, u-turning down a slope into the city urban and catching into the channel system of cars passing by the streets and stores. Blue swerves his head, something catching his eye and instantly grins back at the other, subtly smirking and gesturing behind him; it doesn't take much thought to understand what catch Blue's interest, as Ebony spies the pizza restaurant just off the corner, its indoor lights gleaming out into the dim sunset paved walkway. He checks his time on the dash, reading as almost quarter to 8.
"Sure, we've been riding for a good two hours. Dinner it is~"
Sonic chuckles, forking off to a one way lane and following it steadily to meet the restaurant car park; he glides across the brick closure and curls easily into a space, instantly turning down his throttle and clicking off the dash.
Shadow purrs up beside him, doing the same and pulls out his keys, "So- care to explain what happened earlier or..?"
"Nah, guy had a rod up where the sun don't shine. Not sure what I did to upset him?" Sonic pondered, pulling his lip into a small thoughtful pout, "Hm? Maybe I didn't check my lights or something?"
"You seemed to be doing fine to me.." Shadow mentioned, scratching a flake from his screen.
"Really?~" Blue tilted his head slyly, grinning with pride, "Good enough to pass, perhaps?~"
Dark offered a dry scoff, curling his tan lip into a sneer and cupped the other's chin, pulling him in for a peck. Sonic immediately complied.

That was another wonderful thing he adored about his azure partner; since day one, Sonic had never pushed away his affection or tendencies to share compassion, but only encouraged or fuelled it-- because the blue blurs love what just as similar. They never did anything mushy or considered too romanticised- the day Sonic starts to blush and fluster like a damsel in love, bridled by roses and chocolates or wanting their dates to be like those chick flicks, is likely to Shadow the day hell freezes over and pleads for sanity.
He lightly shoves the other, almost toppling Sonic off his cycle and earns a strangled laugh, followed by a pat on his shoulder in return.
"You jerk!~"
"Pizza then?" Ebony comments, swinging a leg over his saddle.
"Hell yes! I could go for a meat feast!~" Sonic horse jumps off his bike instead, landing perfectly on his heels and coming up beside, slouching an arm on Shadow's shoulder instead, cuffing the wrist, "I could go for a side salad too!"
Ebony shakes his head, grimacing a knowing smirk and flicks the other's nose.
"Yeah, sure you could-- fatty~" "Hey!"
Sonic then playfully wrestles with him into the doorway, laughing foolhardy.
Just a short story I thought of describing the loveable two dorks on a drive~

That was really cute and probably really close to how this would go if it were canon.
